My Story

I like to say I began my artistic career as a young child fascinated by the elements of nature, color and human expression. I observed everything around me and then attempted, through art, to transpose my observations into something I could somehow touch. As a child I never limited myself to a certain art media or form, anything I could get my hands on was fair game to becoming a masterpiece of art to me. During junior high school, I narrowed my art focus into drawing and painting. I loved to capture human expression using bright colors and bold lines.

It wasn’t until after my college years that I began to get my hands muddy in clay and throwing on the potter’s wheel. It only took one class in ceramics for me to begin my love affair with clay. I was intrigued with the ability of using such a raw element as dirt and water to create a piece of art that one could not only touch and hold but actually use in their everyday life.

This obsession with clay led me to Namibia, Africa, where I studied under a Master Potter, John Hunter, for six months in the summer of 2003. During this internship, I had the joy of investing hour after hour into developing my skill in ceramics. John instilled into me the wisdom of not only enjoying the process of developing each piece of work, but in thoroughly sinking into the process so deeply that one would cultivate a love and admiration for every aspect of it.

Since my experience in Africa, I have continued to pursue my passion with ceramics by opening up my own studio in Louisville, CO, Studio 2350. In my work, I make every effort to preserve the vulnerability of the clay itself as a medium while using its form as a canvas for color and soft lines.
